Analysis and Implications

The 2025 data reveals several trends worth noting. First, the churn within the top 100 demonstrates that Oxbridge success at leading independent schools is not a fixed hierarchy — the emergence of new entrants suggests the field of competition is widening rather than concentrating among a few traditional powerhouses. Second, the performance of the biggest risers indicates that mid-ranked schools are narrowing the gap with the elite through strategic investment and academic enhancement.

For parents and students, these figures offer an important perspective: year-on-year rank movements can reveal a school's upward or downward trajectory, but a single year's fluctuation should not be over-interpreted. Sustained performance over multiple years, and a consistent growth trend in offer volumes, are more reliable indicators.

Methodology

This analysis is based on official Oxford and Cambridge admissions data published by UCAS centre. Each school's application and offer counts represent the combined total across both universities. Schools are ranked by total offers in descending order, with applications as a tiebreaker. Only schools classified as 'UK Independent' are included. Cambridge suppresses counts of 5 or fewer offers (reported as 5); records appearing in only one dataset with both offers and applications equal to 5 have been excluded to avoid artificially high offer rates.

'New entrant' denotes a school that did not appear in the 2024 top 100 but entered in 2025. 'Dropout' denotes a school that ranked within the 2024 top 100 but fell outside in 2025. Rank change is expressed as a positive number for improvement (a lower rank number is better).
